Wakasa Kajitsu (Obama City)

In August 2023, "wakasa Kajitsu" will have its grand opening along the coast of Ano, Obama City. The ryokan, once a symbol of the community, has been fully renovated and transformed into a hotel that blends traditional and modern culture. There are a total of 13 guest rooms in the main building, a detached building, and an annex. In addition, there is a warehouse and an outside hot spring.

This inn opened in October 2020 in the village of Shitsumi, located on the coast of Wakasa Bay. The once bustling guest house and detached house have been renovated and reborn as an auberge of the sea.

There are two accommodations, "House SEN" and "Guest House KYUBEE. The guest house has a lounge with drinks and a space lined with bookshelves and tables where you can spend your time as you like, and Wi-Fi is available free of charge.

Wakasa Fugu no Yado Shimojo (Obama City)

Shimojo

Shimojo, a Wakasa Fugu Blowfish inn, is located in Ano, a fishing village rich in nature. The inn consists of a main building, a new wing, and a detached house, and all seven guest rooms are luxurious and newly renovated in spring 2023.

The designer Japanese/Western-style rooms in the main building are decorated with thick beams and mud walls that were found during demolition. The bedroom with a bed and the living room are connected to each other, providing a spacious atmosphere.

Wakasa Fugu Blowfish cuisine

The main dish is Wakasa Fugu Blowfish. The fugu used in the cuisine is raised for two years from young fish in our own fish farm. The basic Wakasa fugu course is a hearty meal that includes tesa and tecchiri, boat-loading, grilled (or boiled) fish, grilled scallops (in winter, steamed oysters in an earthen kettle), and other dishes.

Wakasa Mahata Cuisine

Dishes using "Wakasa mahata," which is said to be a fantastic high-class fish, are also popular. Its tight white flesh is full of flavor, and when served as sashimi, you can enjoy its plump and crunchy texture. When cooked, the tight flesh becomes plump and the flavor is enhanced.

The rice (Koshihikari) and pickled plums are also homemade.

Natasho, Ooi Town, Fukui Prefecture. Standing quietly in a quiet satoyama, an hour's drive from Tsuruga, is the Tensha Tsuchimikado Shinto Headquarters. This is a power spot associated with the Yin-Yang master (Onmyouji) Abe no Seimei. It is also the place where the "calendar" is created to indicate the lucky day of the year and the year of bad luck. Opened in May 2019, this auberge is a casual kappo restaurant and an auberge limited to one couple per day by reservation only. The building is a two-story structure, with the lodging space "Auberge Tokine no Yado Tsugumi" on the first floor and the dining space "Shion no Sato Oar (Kai)" on the second floor.

Stepping out onto the guest room wooden deck, you will see the fishing port in front of you and the ridge line of Mt. Aoba, also known as "Wakasa Fuji. The lush sky and sea are soothing, of course, but the view at dusk, when the sky is a deep shade of madder red, is a sight to behold.

Massage chairs in the "Kutsurogi-no-ma" (Relaxation Room) also offer a view while relieving daily fatigue.

Two bathtubs are lined up in the bathroom, where you can relax and talk with your friends or partner. The bathtubs are designed so that the horizontal line is at your eye level when you sit in the water.

As a kappo restaurant, "Annex Tachida" features creative cuisine that makes the most of Takahama's local ingredients. The popular chawanmushi is an unexpected combination of Takahama fruit tomatoes and Gorgonzola cheese. It is said to be surprising at first, but many customers say, "I want to try it again! The sightseeing train “Hanaakari” will be running again this year.
The body color is based on the color of Binroujizome, a type of dyeing originating in the Nara period and considered to be the highest quality, and the design stands out along the route and at stations.
One of the three cars has 10 spacious private rooms for two people, creating a relaxed atmosphere inside the train.
The train runs only on weekends and departs from and arrives at stations in Tsuruga and Wakasa, making it a great option for sightseeing.
